Fees

We believe that clearly understanding the costs of your care is an important part of choosing the right obstetrician for you.

Our aim is to be transparent about our fees so you can make informed decisions without unexpected surprises.

Obstetric Fees

Antenatal Consultations

Each antenatal appointment is billed individually throughout your pregnancy. Medicare rebates are available for eligible patients, helping to reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

Pregnancy Planning & Management Fee

A Pregnancy Planning and Management Fee is charged during your pregnancy by all private obstetricians. This fee covers the planning, coordination and ongoing management of your obstetric care throughout your pregnancy, as well as your doctor's 24-hour on-call availability for pregnancy and birth. It reflects the time spent overseeing your care, reviewing results, communicating with other healthcare providers when needed, and providing continuity of care from early pregnancy through to your baby's birth.

In the rare event that Dr Tetstall is unavailable due to illness, annual leave or conference commitments, this fee also covers your in hospital care by one of the experienced and trusted obstetrician colleagues. Dr Tetstall works closely with a small group of like-minded specialists to ensure you continue to receive high-quality, personalised care whenever she is unavailable.

Medicare provides a rebate for eligible patients towards this fee. We also encourage all eligible families to register for the Medicare Safety Net. Once your family's out-of-pocket Medicare costs reach the annual Safety Net threshold, Medicare provides a higher rebate for many eligible out-of-hospital services, including obstetric consultations. This can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses over the course of your pregnancy.

Delivery Fee

Your delivery is covered through your private health insurance, provided you have appropriate obstetric cover and have served any applicable waiting periods. Dr Tetstall has a No Gap arrangement with participating private health funds for the delivery, meaning there is no additional out-of-pocket obstetric delivery fee for insured patients.

Self-Funded & Overseas Patients

We warmly welcome self-funded and overseas patients. As private health insurance does not cover delivery costs in these circumstances, a separate delivery fee applies. This fee is payable at the same time as the Pregnancy Planning and Management Fee. Our team will provide a personalised estimate of all expected costs before your care begins.

Additional costs to be aware of

  • Hospital excess or co-payments - dependent on your health fund and level of cover

  • Blood tests and other pathology - billed by the pathology provider

  • Ultrasounds or imaging at formal imaging-providers

  • Fees charged by other doctors involved in your care - such as anaesthetists and paediatricians

Gynaecology Fees

Consultation fees apply for all appointments, with Medicare rebates available for eligible patients.

If investigations, procedures or surgery are recommended, our team will provide a personalised estimate of all expected costs, including applicable Medicare rebates and private health insurance benefits. We are committed to transparent pricing, so you can make informed decisions about your care with confidence.

Understanding Medicare & Your Costs

Medicare and private health insurance rebates can sometimes be confusing, and the amount you receive back may vary depending on your individual circumstances and level of cover. Our team is happy to explain the fees, expected Medicare rebates and what is covered by your private health fund.

For complete transparency, we can provide a comprehensive schedule of fees for pregnancy care, gynaecology consultations and procedures. Please contact our rooms and our friendly staff will be happy to answer your questions and provide detailed fee information before your first appointment.
